The guys begin their month-long spookfest with Tomas Alfredson's 2008 vampire flick Let the Right One In, starring Kåre Hedebrant and Lina Leandersson as Oskar and Eli, two twelve-year old Swedes who meet in the strangest of times. They discuss the ways the film not only eschews horror standards but manages to rewrite them in the simplest terms, as Alfredson's adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel plays on the imagination and subtlety rather than more in-your-face scare tactics, creating a beautiful and compelling filmwatching experience. The two central characters' relationship is at the film's core, and the guys discuss the implications of that relationship in the mode of the vampire movie and this movie particularly, which seems to highlight a need for human connection, even for a monster. They also reveal what their own dealbreakers might be if the new girl next door catches their fancy and answer one of your own submitted questions about their own dream film adaptations.
